Step 1: Buying stocks online is quite simple. But first, you must do your research (see my other articles about that). Once you feel you are ready to begin trading, open up a brokerage account. There are many sites you can go to to open up a brokerage account... Step 2: I would recommend either Etrade.com, Ameritrade.com, or Sharebuilder.com. The benefit of the first two is that they provide better tools to help you research your stocks.
